Coliving/Online Map Making/Sink Laundry
Nomadic Entrepreneurs Running 7-Figure Companies
When I first circled the globe in the early 1990s, about the only remote business owners who could keep on moving for a year were solopreneur writers, musicians, and artists. This week I'm with with 500+ digital nomads from 41 countries at the Bansko Nomad Fest in Bulgaria. Yesterday there was a "7-Figure Business Owners Panel" that had 7 remote entrepreneurs on stage. Their businesses included tech start-ups, rental property firms, Amazon fulfillment, and a web business brokerage.
The Coliving Movement
As more people work remotely, some spaces are trying to combine the community serendipity of a hostel space with the productivity of a co-working space, enabling a deeper bond that comes with weeks or months of "coliving" together. There are international operations like Selena and smaller chains such as Coliving Frilingue (with locations in Switzerland and Montenegro). Most are single, independently owned operations though. Check out new site Coliving Compass to get an idea of what a few look like in Europe.
Interactive Maps You Can Draw On
There are lots of map-making programs you can use to document your travels or stick pins in places you have been to. This Felt one that Kevin Kelly found has so many more uses though and allows you to apply tactile drawing elements like you would have with a paper one when mapping out a road trip. Great for hiking/biking trails, vacation itineraries, and idea collaborations, with a fast loading time.
The Cheapest Travel Gadget You'll Buy
Anyone who tries to pack light in a small bag for trips where they'll be on the move a lot is going to eventually be doing some laundry in a sink. If you're lucky, your hotel or apartment will have a sink stopper, but that's not always a given. Be sure you're covered with a flat rubber cover that will work for multiple drain sizes. You can find one in a hardware store, your local dollar store, or at Amazon for less than $3.
