Foiling Pickpockets/Delay Compensation/€-$ Parity
An Inexpensive Pickpocket Foiler
Big crowds of distracted tourists are gathering in Europe this summer, which means pickpockets are out there grazing like wolves in a field of lambs. One of the simplest and cheapest thief deterrents is a passport-sized Eagle Creek under-clothing wallet. Get one that hooks to a belt loop and goes inside your pants, one that has its own elastic waist belt, or one that hangs around your neck and goes inside a shirt.
Some $ For Your Delayed EU Flight
A few readers recently mentioned the Colibra app for getting some quick cash back on your delayed or canceled flight within or to/from Europe. The compensation amounts are much lower than you'd get by filing a case directly with the offending airline, but it's a sure €20 to €100 for any flight delayed an hour or more. If you book through them instead of just adding your flight info, you don't even pay for the flight unless it arrives within 3 hours of the scheduled landing.
Lie-flat Beds in Economy Class?
Air New Zealand is proposing a new 17-hour flight between Auckland and New York City, but with a twist: there will be reserved sleeping pods for rent for 4-hour stretches with an additional fee open to economy passengers. If the idea comes to fruition, the bunks will debut in 2024.
Easy Math for Europe Travel
The last time the next statement was true we didn't have smartphones, Facebook, or Youtube. This week the euro dropped down to parity with the U.S. dollar. If you get paid in the latter, time to lock in great travel prices! A 100-euro hotel, apartment, meal, or train that was $120 last year is now $100.
