Nomadic Dating/Travel Laundry/Hotel Door Security
Have you been looking for love in all the wrong places? You'll only be connecting with people who understand the long-term travel life when you put up a profile at Nomad Soulmates. It started with a Facebook group and is now an app that uses your location to see who's in the same city or region. Basic membership is free, a premium version adds more functions.
After all, as Nomadic Matt points out in this article on the downside of life as a digital nomad, roaming around the world non-stop for years as a solo traveler can get lonely after a while. Eventually you start craving a working base and someone you'll spend more than a few weeks with before saying goodbye.
After last week's mention of a cheap rubber drain cover for doing sink laundry, a couple of readers wrote in with a different solution: doing laundry in a dry bag. That bag can also keep things dry of course, or be stuffed with dirty clothes and be a pillow. Any waterproof bag that can be sealed will work, but here are a couple of lightweight travel options: Sea to Summit Ultra-sil (that I have used) and The Scrubba (from reader Kartini Cooper).
Recomendo contributor Mark Frauenfelder and reader Ron Martoia both mentioned this AceMining portable door lock for hotel/apartment rooms that is compact but will keep out intruders. It'll keep anyone from opening a door from the outside, even with a key, and it costs less than $20.
