My thoughts on which state/city have the most travelers: think dollars. I live in Syracuse and it costs a lot to fly anywhere except Orlando. But flights out of NYC and Miami are so frequent and affordable even those with a modest income can afford to get out of the country more than once in their lifetime.
That makes sense, but some really busy airports with plenty of flight options are in cities where many people come in, but far fewer go out. Like Atlanta, Las Vegas, Orlando, and Salt Lake City. Plus there are cheap flights to/from the middle of the country to Mexico and beyond, but far fewer travelers take advantage of them compared to how many do from the coastal states.
