Best of luck traveling without worrying about visas, immigration laws, a passport, traffic regulations, public infrastructure, or flight safety---all political and impacted by government decisions.

A tip to add to the list: “Avoid traveling in third-world countries during field-burning season.”

I traveled to northern Myanmar at the peak of field-burning season and the pall of smoke over the countryside was unbearable…sore eyes, sore throat. Like walking around in choking smog. Really terrible, especially for those with allergies or asthma.

Thanks Scott. I had a similar experience when I went to southern Thailand during the same season. All the beautiful rock formations were hidden in a ghostly haze. I wrote a blog post recently on the most polluted cities in the world. Some of them are like that all year, but a lot of them in SE Asia make the list for a few months because of all the field fires. Terrible. https://www.cheapestdestinationsblog.com/2025/01/26/most-polluted-cities/
