Eurail tix are expensive. If you have any European friends, buy an Interail sent to their address (1 month global pass 1000 vs 700 euros). Either way, research as the article says. If you are mainly in Western Europe/Scandinavia, they can pay off. Trains are dirt cheap in Central and Eastern Europe.
